Violet Gallagher who is in her 70’s was living alone in Castleblaney and felt that she was slowly going downhill. She found it difficult to cook for herself and struggled with her mobility. She said that because of COVID restrictions she was not seeing many people, was very lonely and afraid of anything happening to her in the middle of the night.

After a particularly bad day for Violet, she thought to herself that she needed to do something about it, and asked her daughter to help her find a nursing home. After some research she decided on Castleross Nursing Home just outside Carrickmacross. She said that when she spoke to the team in Castleross before she decided to move there, they were so friendly and she felt reassured that she was making the right decision as it seemed like a very homely place.

Violet said that she feels that older people just 'struggle on and on’, but she decided that she wasn’t going to do that any more. She made a decision to opt for Nursing Home care, ordered a skip and she hasn’t looked back.

I feel like I am living again Violet Gallagher moved in to Castleross in September 2020, not really knowing if she had made the right decision. She quickly realised that it was one of the best decisions she had ever made for herself.

Violet said, “The welcome I got when I moved in to Castleross Nursing Home was just fabulous. Majella Connell, Care Manager, had explained everything to me on the phone before I moved in and made sure I was happy with my decision. She wanted me to be sure I was ready to move to Castleross before I ordered the skip to get rid of the stuff in my house, ha ha. So, when I got here, I had a good idea what life here would be like, but it is even better than I had ever imagined”.
